Welcome to Sudaca Football Club

Sudaca Football Club (SFC) has been around in San Diego since the early 1990’s. It was originally formed by the brothers Carlos & Jorge Rios-Nogales along with a group of mostly Latin American/L.A. descendant friends that shared the love for the game. Different versions of teams we formed since then, participating in many leagues until late 1990’s.

Around 2001, a group of friends that played together at Ski Beach for fun Saturday mornings decided that it was time to begin competing again. So a new version of our Sudaca was born, and for this version, the meaning we gave to Sudaca (SUDAmerica-CAlifornia) refers to South Americans and Californians/CA residents, friends and families, whom share the passion for this beautiful sport.

First, we began participating in the “East County Soccer League” and “Liga de La Amistad”, and the team made a good impact in the league, with a very competitive team. Plus, also by not being your average team, SFC was the team to beat, because in that particular league we were the only team that was not mostly formed by mostly Mexican/US origin players. Simultaneously, we enrolled in Indoor leagues like the one in Poway, YMCA Point Loma, YMCA Mission Valley, and Folsoms.

Two years after the new era of the Club took place, we joined the San Diego County Soccer League (SDCSL held in Rob Field, Ocean Beach) in the Premier Division, competition the most prestige and is the most well known one in SD. The following years, SFC added two more teams in the Super Majors and Masters Divisions.

The season 2005-2006 the Master Division team was merged with Club Atletico Sudamerica (CAS) for that season only, a brother team with whom we still have a great relationship with, and are part of our family.

In 2006, we were honored to be invited to participate in the USA Open Cup Region IV that was held in Seattle, Washington.   This Cup is the oldest cup played in the US, and gathers the best teams from 12 West states.  The winner of this tournament goes to the playoff round and plays against the MLS teams (Lamar Hunt Cup). Our results were a bit discrete, but it was a great experience for all of us, and brought even more prestige to the team.

In 2007, SFC went back to just one team in the league as Carlos, General Manager, was now handling everything on his own, due to many circumstances, like his brother Jorge moving to Oregon, until the season of 2008-2009.

Unfortunately, our leader and founder Carlos Rios-Nogales passed away in March 2009, time that we all inherited this team, with lot’s of tradition and history, and Sudaca  become everyone’s.

Now a board, with a clear structure and vision has been created, and there is a group of people, very much indentified with the club, managing the team. Our purpose is will follow Carlos’ vision and passion for the beautiful game, which is no only to compete at the top of the standings but also for all of us to know, whether you play for SFC or not, that any given Sunday you can go to Rob Field in OB and will find a big group of friends, acquaintances, along their friends and families, playing soccer, chatting, having a great time, and enjoying life.

Viva our Sudaca Football Club!!!
